Trusted to Bring Out the #2 in You

For over 60 years, SENOKOT® has been helping people find gentle, overnight relief from occasional constipation. SENOKOT® Laxatives are made with natural senna — a shrub-like plant whose leaves and pods have been used for centuries in the East and West as a laxative. This property of senna was first described in the ninth century by Arabian physicians in the service of the caliph of Baghdad and it has been used as a laxative ever since.

Today, SENOKOT® is proud to be a trusted laxative among Canadian shoppers and our products are proudly made in Canada.

What is senna?

Senna is a plant that’s been grown and harvested as a natural laxative for over 3,500 years. In modern times, the laxative effects of the senna plant have been identified as sennosides and are commonly used to treat constipation.

How does senna work?

The senna used in SENOKOT® products is extracted from the deseeded and dried pods of the Cassia Acutifolia Delile, otherwise known as Senna alexandrina. To ensure a standardized dose and consistent potency in every tablet, we only use the deseeded pods of the senna plant once they have been ground up into a fine, standardized powder.

The sennosides (or senna glycosides) found within the senna plant stimulate peristalsis, a series of comfortable wave-like contractions, to help encourage bowel movements and to ease constipation. SENOKOT® tablets use natural senna and SENOKOT®•S also contains a stool softener.
